Healthy Halloween Party Ideas

Ok, I let it happen.  We are one week away from our local Trick or Treat night and the candy has entered my house.  I actually put my husband in charge and although I suggested getting little tattoos, erasers, glow sticks, etc, he ended up coming home with little bags of peanut M&M's and mini Snickers bars.  NOOOOO!!!!!  Then, he brought a big bag of mixed chocolates home.  Ugh!!!  Yes, I took it upon myself to snag a few pieces and then realized that the "picking" is only going to make things worse.  The more sugar you eat, the more you crave! The more you crave, the more your willpower is going to be tested.  So, I then took it upon myself to HIDE the bags!  All of that "picking" adds up (and so will the pounds)!! 

ANYWAYS, on top of all of this, I am volunteering for both my 3 and 5 year old daughter's parties and was trying to think of something that I could bring in.  I came across a blog post from Beachbody that had some great ideas, along with Pinterest, and thought I'd pick a some out to share.  I know some schools only require packaged food on party days but if you can actually make something, here are some GREAT ideas!!  In addition, if you are having or attending any sort of Halloween parties, then you should DEFINITELY pick one of these to make!  They are cute, fun, and kids (and adults) will love them! 



Cheese Witch Brooms - Fold each cheese slice and cut the fringes of the broom (using scissors).  Rolls the slice of cheese around the pretzel stick and use chive to tie and knot around it!

Jack-o-Lantern Fruit Cups - Grab some navel oranges, scoop out the pulp, carve a little face, and fill with some yummy fresh fruit!

 Mummified Apples - wrap your small apples with some gauze and add some candy / googly eyes!

 Pumpkin Veggie Tray - You can't go wrong with a veggie tray! There are a few different routes you can take but I like this one the best. It offers some good variety!

 Spiders on a log - These are a big hit!! Add some natural peanut butter to celery and create spiders using a small chocolate chip and a little icing!

 Banana Ghosts - Cut a banana in half and add two mini and one regular sized chocolate chip for the face!
Orange Pumpkins - Grab a bag of tangerines or even the small halos / cuties. Peel them and stick a small piece of celery in the top for the pumpkin stem.

Jack-o-Lantern Clementines (or tangerines / oranges) -  Grab a sharpie and draw silly faces on them!  The kids will peel them off before eating anyways :)

Slow Cooker Chicken Stew

There is nothing like a nice warm stew on a cool Fall day! This is a good one to cook all day in your kitchen. It smells delicious!! It's a pretty basic recipe so you can add other veggies if you want or even take some of them out!

Ingredients:
  • 1-2 pounds of boneless, skinless chicken breast (chopped)
  • 2 cups carrots, chopped
  • 4 cups red potatoes, chopped
  • 2 cups celery, chopped
  • 1/2 onion, chopped
  • 1 tsp garlic powder, thyme, oregano, basil, marjoram, and black pepper
  • 4 cups low sodium chicken broth

Directions:
 Place ALL ingredients in slow cooker and cook on high for 4 hours or on low for the day (about 8 hours).  Simple as that!

Good Evening!  Can you believe it is almost Mid-October already?!! Where is the time going?  I can't believe how many Christmas items are out in stores already! For some, the holidays bring on lots of STRESS!  Between social get-togethers, holiday shopping, planning, and of course, spending money, the stress can get to be too much!  I have to say, as a work from home mom, the stress of the holidays does tend to be a bit less (for me at least)!  I do have the luxury of creating my own schedule, being available for my girls holiday parties, and having the ability to get some things done that I wouldn't otherwise have if I were still teaching full time.  I love that I can do this without the financial stress of living on one income too.  Although I was confident in my ability to build a business, I was a bit nervous when I decided to resign from my teaching position.   Let's face it, anytime a family loses one full income things change a bit.  Fortunately, these changes didn't last long due to my decision to become a Beachbody Coach!  Beachbody does not guarantee any level of success when signing up so I knew that if I received the proper training and put some work in to it, that I WOULD be successful!  I have been able to fill that void of teaching and helping others that I was missing from my teaching job, and I am also still able to contribute an income to my family. It also helps that I am a part of the #1 team IN THE COMPANY!  Yep, you read that right!

When the going gets tough, do you ever sit back and think about your "WHY?" WHY do you get up in the morning and do what you do? WHY do you have the job that you have? What goals do you have that support that reason WHY? MY Why is off to the left. 💕 I decided to take a risk because of these two. I decided to treat my job as more than a hobby or something that I HAD to do because of these two. I put my main amount of work in during late night hours because of these two. I get up early because of these two! Everything that I do eventually comes back to them and I couldn't be happier! So, when you are feeling down, when you haven't yet reached those goals that you intended, or when you are ready to throw in the towel and give up on them, do a little reflection and think back to your WHY.

Clean Chunky Monkey Ice Cream

Talk about a DELICIOUS and guilt-free treat!!  This recipe is directly from the Fixate Cookbook and it is certainly a keeper in this house!  Give it a try and let me know what you think!

Homemade Chunky Monkey Ice Cream, Fixate Cookbook, 21 Day Fix, 21 Day Fix approved treats, healthy ice cream
Homemade Chunky Monkey Ice Cream

Ingredients: (4 servings)
  • 3 ripe medium bananas, cut into chunks
  • 3 Tbsp all-natural peanut butter
  • 1-2 Tbsp Unsweetened almond milk (optional)
  • 4 tsp chopped dark chocolate
  • 4 tsp sliced raw almonds


Directions:
  1. Place bananas in a plastic bag and freeze for 4 hours, or until completely frozen.
  2. Place bananas and peanut butter in blender (or food processor); cover.  Blend until smooth. Add 1 to 2 Tbsp almond milk if needed (for creamier texture).
  3. Divide ice cream evenly between four servings bowls; top evenly with chocolate and almonds.
  4. Serve immediately.
