Glazed Yams

My family likes yams / sweet potatoes and to be honest, we used to eat them with a ton of butter and brown sugar.  Of course they are still good that way, I knew that we needed a healthier alternative if we would be eating them every or every other week.  So, I usually just cook them plain and add a touch of cinnamon.  I came across this recipe on the Team Beachbody blog; however, I adapted it  because the original recipe is for 2-2 1/2 pounds of potatoes, which is WAY more than we eat!

We all really liked this new recipe and will definitely be using it in the future!

Check it out and give it a try!  Let me know what you think!

Exclusive Hammer and Chisel Test Group
Well, it's about that time!  No, I don't mean Thanksgiving or Christmas, I mean it's about that time that Team Beachbody is launching yet another AWESOME home fitness program!!  I am pretty excited about this one because as results have shown, doing workouts that involve weights has made the biggest difference in my body. So, what IS this new program? It is called The Master's Hammer and Chisel. The creators / trainers are Autumn Calabrese (from the infamous 21 Day Fix) and Sagi Kalev (from Body Beast). Both trainers are phenomenal and have developed programs that have given my customers, and TONS of others unbelievable results!  So, let's cut to the chase!  What is the program like?  Who is it for?  Do you need equipment?  What's the nutrition plan like? When is it coming out?!

Hammer and Chisel Test Group
If you are a Team Beachbody Club member, then you have already had the chance to get a sneak peek of a Hammer (Sagi) and a Chisel (Autumn) workout!  Let me tell you, this has only made me MORE excited! THE RELEASE DATE IS TUESDAY, DECEMBER 1st! Keep reading for details on how to get on my contact list and/or be in a First to Know Facebook group!

The Master's Hammer and Chisel is the expert workout system that delivers breathtaking, body-changing results in as little as 60 days. Trainers Sagi Kalev and Autumn Calabrese are amazing at sculpting spectacular physiques, and they have shelves full of competition prizes to prove it! In The Master's Hammer and Chisel, they share their strategies in this system of resistance training to shape powerful muscles, shed body fat, and build a ripped physique.  This is a 60 day program and the workouts are 30-40 minutes each (6 DAYS PER WEEK), which in my opinion (as a busy mom) is perfect!  I know for me, I have personally had the best results when weights and cardio are incorporated, along with those shorter workouts!

What is the nutrition program like?
PORTION CONTROL!  If you've done the 21 day fix, 21 Day Fix Extreme, Cize, or Insanity Max 30, then you are quite familiar with the color coded portion control system.  You get some foods lists per container (that contains totally normal foods) and a formula to figure out how many containers you need!  You actually have a few options before you figure out how many containers you get.  You need to determine whether you want to lose weight/shred, build mass, or maintain.  Speaking from someone who has been using this plan since February 2014, it is truly a GAME CHANGER!

What do I need to complete the program?
  • You need a set of dumbbells of varying weights.  For women, it is recommend that you have weights ranging from 5-20 pounds depending on your strength.
  • A pull up bar (best option) or an exercise band with door attachment.  If you don't have room for a pull up bar (like me) then you can get the resistance bands/door attachment at a sporting goods store or even Walmart / Target.
  • A weight bench (best option) or a stability ball.  These can also be purchased at a sporting goods store and/or Walmart / Target.
  • Workouts sheets / Pen - The workout sheets will be available through the Team Beachbody website.
**There is some OPTIONAL equipment that you  may want to consider.....
    - Team Beachbody Club Membership - - This does come with  a quarterly fee; however, you will be able to stream the workouts through Beachbody on Demand instead of using the DVD's every time. Also, if you want to maximize your recovery, performance, and results, then you may want to consider the Performance Line Supplements.

So who is ready for that six pack?!!! ME! ME! ME!

Top 10 Tips to Avoid the Thanksgiving Weight Gain

Avoid Thanksgiving Weight Gain, Healthy Holiday Tips, Meal Planning, Healthy Thanksgiving Recipe, Health and Fitness Online Support, Tips to staying healthy over the holidays, Successfully Fit, Lisa Decker

I will be the first to admit that in the past, I indulged WAY TOO MUCH on Thanksgiving. I mean, it's so hard not to, right?!  I remember the days of getting up the next morning, stepping on the scale, and then feeling that pit in my stomach.  My family is Italian so not only did my Thanksgiving dinners include the typical turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, but it also included (and still includes) pasta!  On top of that, my grandmother (who is one of our famous Thanksgiving cooks) wasn't happy with just turkey.  We also used to have ham and beef too.  Yikes!  While the food has tamed down a bit, a lot of it is still there. In fact, I was just told the other day that there will be perogies this year.  So I guess you could say that when we spend  Thanksgiving with my family, it is a bit non-traditional in terms of food.

While I could sit here and write a post about how you shouldn't eat any of that food and gorge yourself with carbs all day, we all know that it's not going to help.  The food is still going to be there and the temptations are going to be running wild.  This will be my third Thanksgiving with a "healthier" approach and I have to say, I am loving not ending the day feeling bloated, stuffed, and "icky."  BUT, I DO still indulge in some of my favorite  Thanksgiving foods, including pie.  So, what's my secret?  That's today's topic!

I am going to outline some of my tips that have helped me avoid that Thanksgiving weight gain!  I know we are still a week away from the big day; however, I am someone who likes to go in to the holidays with a plan in place and quite frankly, these are tips that you could {and should} use on a daily basis too!

My goal is to avoid the picture below!!

NOT THIS YEAR!

Eat Breakfast!
1.  EAT BREAKFAST!  You know when you were younger and your parents and/or teachers always said "breakfast is the most important meal of the day." Guess what?  They weren't lying!  Somehow though, this seems to be a meal that TONS of people skip!  Starting your day with a fulfilling and healthy breakfast will give you the energy to begin your day on the right foot.  I don't mean going through a drive through and getting an egg mcmuffin either.  I also don't mean picking up some instant oatmeal that you THINK is going to be a healthy choice  but is loaded with sugar.  Having a bowl of 'real' old fashioned oats with some fruit is a great choice! Getting up a few minutes earlier to ensure that you are having a healthy breakfast will definitely be worth it.  One of my favorites is a veggie omelet!  I went out to eat with my daughter for her birthday and while I could have easily gotten caught up in the big fluffy pancakes and syrup that she was having, I stuck with a better choice.

Drink Water!
2. Stay Hydrated!  It is crazy what drinking your daily allowance of water can do.  I always have at least one or two challengers in my accountability groups talk about the positive changes they experience simply by drinking enough water.  Not only does water help you to feel full / control your calorie intake, but it also helps to energize your muscles, keeps your skin looking healthy, and of course, helps flush those kidneys (among many other benefits). So, how much water should you be drinking?  Aim to drink half of your body weight in ounces.

3. EXERCISE!  I know, I'm sure you aren't surprised to hear this! But seriously, getting daily exercise in is super important. I admit that I used to think I was way to busy for this, especially as a mom of two young children. When it comes down to it though, taking these steps to stay healthy isn't just for yourself, it is for your family too!  So, if that means I work out at 9:00pm at night because I had a crazy day, then so be it! There are SEVERAL home fitness programs (I can get you hooked up!) that are 30 minutes or less. You don't have to drive to a gym, figure out child care, and then stare at equipment that you don't know how to use effectively.  And no, I am not against gyms, I just find it much more convenient to work out at home.   Just the other day my husband was going to be late for dinner so while my girls were eating at our normal time, I was right next to them getting my workout in!  How much easier does it get?! Do you have kids that you think "won't allow" you to exercise? Trust me when I say, if YOU make it a habit, they will begin to see it and maybe even exercise WITH you!

4. Use a small plate!  Don't think I'm crazy on this one. It really is a mind game. The larger the plate you have, the more room for food.  So, do yourself a favor and stick with a small sized plate before you load up.  Just try it.  Enough said....

Use a Small Plate!
5. Socialize without the munching!  You get what I'm saying here?  After dinner is over and you are hanging around socializing with friends and/or family, stay away from the food! If you find that there are treats sitting around in front of you, move your seat or push them away! If you have control of temptation, then do something about it!

Food Tracker
6. DON'T wait until dinner time to eat!  AKA: Don't save your calories. Track your food instead! I personally am a 21 Day Fix LOVER!  It is a simple nutrition plan that includes 100% normal foods.  I know that on Thanksgiving I am going to be having an extra carb, so, I am going to make sure I don't use up that carb in the morning!  Tracking what you eat either through a food journal or an app like My Fitness Pal can be extremely beneficial. It's nice to see "at a glance" all of the food you eat within a day.  It really puts things in perspective. Going along the same subject, don't wait until dinner to eat (even if your dinner is at 2:00pm). This is an approach I actually used to take. I would have something really small in the morning to "save room" for all of the food I was going to be indulging in throughout the day. That just makes it worse.  You will be SO hungry come meal time that you will end up eating MORE food than if you would have just spaced out your meals for the day.  Make sense?

Thanksgiving Tips
7. Mind your portions and watch the leftovers! It's inevitable that you will most likely indulge in some foods that you don't normally have on a daily basis, so, mind your portions! Rather than scooping out a double portion of mashed potatoes, stick with about 1/2 cup.  If you plan to have potatoes, then pass on the rolls.  It's kind of a give and take situation.  Most Thanksgiving meals are carb overload, which will make you crash after dinner AND make you hungry shortly later.  In addition to this, watch the leftovers! Thanksgiving is one day, not multiple!  So, to avoid extra carbs multiple days in a row, just stick with Thanksgiving day. Oh, and while you're at it, STOP EATING WHEN YOU ARE FULL!! ;)

8. Start with the veggies! When you sit down for dinner, rather than grabbing the turkey and mashed potatoes, grab the veggies!  I've noticed around our Thanksgiving table there never seems to be much room left for the greens, resulting in very little veggies for the day.  If you start filling your plate with the healthier food, you don't have the space to double or triple up on the other food!

Shakeology
9. Shakeology I am obviously a huge supporter of Shakeology, which is a nutritional shake that provides you with your daily dose of nutrients. It has the proper carb to protein ratio which will keep you feeling fuller, longer!  Shakeology is NOT a protein shake but it IS a meal replacement shake (or it could be used as a snack).  I love the convenience as much as I love the taste!  There are so many treat recipes that you can use throughout the holidays.  When it comes down to it, in my opinion, this is the PERFECT time of year to have it on hand.  I love that I can get a little chocolate fix in without the guilt (and fat / calories / sugar)!

10. Post Thanksgiving accountability  Thanksgiving begins the craziness of social gatherings, holiday stress, and treats / cookies galore!  Just a few weeks or so after Thanksgiving we are at it again with a big holiday meal to prepare for.  So, I am offering some holiday accountability in my HOLIDAY SURVIVAL Group!  We will begin planning week on Monday the 23rd and then kick off Day 1 on Monday, November 30th!  You can read about the details HERE!

Within this group, you also have the OPTION of doing a post Thanksgiving 3 DAY REFRESH!  In any case, you will have FULL SUPPORT throughout the ENTIRE month of December!  Then, we will get down to business after the holidays in my New Year New You Challenge coming in January 2016!!

Holiday Survival Accountability

Holiday Survival

Yes, I'm going to say it!  Soon enough, it's going to be that time (if it hasn't hit you already) for holiday survival.

What does that mean?  Well, we are QUICKLY approaching that time of year where we will have so many social gatherings, parties, and of course, temptations around us in terms of food.  On top of that, we are just plain BUSY!  Just this weekend I found myself creating different to-do lists! Oh, and I took a stroll through Toys R Us to get some ideas and I felt like it was Black Friday!!  I'm not one to start Christmas shopping before Thanksgiving but I have to admit, I picked up a few things already! Ahhh!! For some reason I am feeling the stress!

Holiday Survival Accountability Group

ANYWAYS, along with that stress typically comes the junk.  You know what I'm talking about.  In the past, I was that person who always said "it's the holidays" or "I'll get back on track in January."  Does that sound familiar?  January is SUCH a popular time to join gyms, eat healthy, lose weight, etc.  BUT, why wait?  Why not be healthy through the holidays? Instead of treating your body to tons of treats, why not find that healthy balance?

Honestly, it IS possible and you won't feel like you are depriving your body from all of the treats.  SO, to help you do this, I am offering my annual HOLIDAY SURVIVAL accountability group!
Holiday Accountability Group, Holiday Survival, Holiday Accountability, Shakeology, Holiday Heath and Fitness, Healthy Holiday, 21 Day Fix, Successfully Fit, Meal Planning, Cize, PiYo, 21 Day Fix, Lisa Decker
Holiday Survival Health and Fitness Accountability Group

At this point you may be thinking.....what the heck is that?! OK, let me explain.  What I do as a health and fitness Coach is run online accountability groups.  I run these group through a closed Facebook group so only the members of the group can see what is being posted.  If you don't have a Facebook account we can work out another form of accountability. We start with a planning week where everyone sets their goals, takes measurements and before pictures (no, you don't share these with the group) and then we dive in to the meal planning!  Then, the following Monday we will kick off Day 1!!

So, planning week for this group will begin on Monday, November 23rd.  Yes, I know that is the week of Thanksgiving; however, it's exactly what it says....PLANNING!  Monday November 30th will kick off the official start to the group, which is pretty good timing if you ask me!!

Who can Join?

For starters, I offer my accountability groups to my personal customers, Coaches, and their challengers, so, if you are not already working with a Beachbody Coach, then you can create a FREE account HERE!   By doing so, I will be your official Coach.  If you'd rather reach out to me for more info, you can do that too. My email address is lisamariedecker@yahoo.com. If you are in a situation where you and your Coach are not in contact and/or are not actively working with him or her, then I'd be happy to help you!

What is involved?

The groups themselves are free support.  To join in on the group, you DO need something called a Challenge Pack.  A Challenge Pack is a discounted bundle of a home fitness program and a month supply (30 meals) of a nutritional shake called Shakeology.  Right now there is a GREAT November deal with a VERY popular program called the 21 Day Fix.  I can not praise this program enough!!!  30 minute workouts and a SIMPLE nutrition plan! To learn more, click HERE. This month it even comes with an insulted tote bag!!  Already have the 21 Day Fix?  Maybe you are ready for the next step which is the 21 Day Fix EXTREME!  (also on promotion).   This group is not limited to these two programs. There are some other great programs out there including the newest Shaun T dance workout called CIZE,  something more intense like Insanity Max 30, or even something low impact like PiYo! There are lots to choose from!!  If you are unsure, then we can chat about your goals and I can give you some recommendations.

Guilt Free Treat - Shakeology

Shakeology is a meal replacement shake that provides you with your daily dose of nutrients. It's one meal that you don't have to think about or plan out, so that's a bonus!  FYI, Shakeology is NOT a protein shake.   A common misconception is that you are on some kind of diet that involves drinking shakes all day. While there are certainly diets out there like that, this type of lifestyle is NOT!!  I personally start my daily with a shake and then eat FOUR other meals throughout the day!  Shakeology comes in at about $4.30 per day and if you ask me, this is the PERFECT time of year to have it on hand.  There are SO many "treat" recipes that are DELICIOUS!!  This will be my third holiday season with Shakeology and I can testify that the past two years I have eaten A LOT less sweets!!  My two favorite holiday recipes are Candy Cane and Gingerbread Man. Snicker-doodle is really good too!!  A common objection that I hear is "it's expensive."  Actually, when purchased in a Challenge Pack, it's a pretty good deal! There are even some other perks you get with a challenge pack than just the program and shakeology. Also, if you give up those mocha lattes and other daily (or multiple times a week) treats then you are most likely breaking even or not spending much more.  I seriously can't tell you how helpful and easy it has been to pass on the Christmas cookies!!

So, what do you say?  We are just over one month before Christmas (crazy, huh?)!  With this Holiday Survival group I am going to focus on that 80/20 rule.  We aren't necessarily concerned with losing a bunch of weight (unless that is your goal). The main focus is to not put on those extra holiday pounds AND have the support and motivation to stay on track!  This group is going to run through December 31st; so, we're talking about an ENTIRE month of support!!  I will provide you with meal plans, templates, recipes, daily motivation, support, and accountability.  We will work as a group to keep each other on track with that healthy balance.  HOLIDAY SURVIVAL at its best!

Slow Cooker Balsamic Pork Roast

We are typically a "chicken for dinner" family; however, I DO like to switch things up a bit.  So, last night we had this slow cooker balsamic pork roast and boy was it good! I'm typically not a pork fan; however, I LOVE balsamic vinegar so I figured this would be good!  I actually made this quite some time ago and never blogged about it, resulting in me forgetting about it!  The hubby especially loved it!

This recipe was actually shared with me by a friend but I noticed that it is also on the Skinny Taste website so that may have been were it originated from.

Enjoy!

1. Season the pork with garlic powder and red pepper flakes then place in slow cooker.
2. Mix the broth and vinegar and pour over pork.
3. Add the honey on top.

Cash for Christmas Coaching Event

I was out and about doing a little shopping over the weekend and noticed a common theme.  "WE'RE HIRING" and "HOLIDAY HELP NEEDED" signs were EVERYWHERE! Of course, it IS that time of year.  I have so many friends and family members that go out and snag a second job working retail to earn some extra cash for holiday spending.  Kudos to you for working those extra long days and dealing with the nasty crowd!  In many cases, this involves taking a good bit of time away from your family and having very little control over your work schedule.

So, I got to thinking....

If you follow me on Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Google+, or right here on my blog, then it's no secret that I am a health and fitness Coach through a company called Beachbody.  What I do is run monthly online accountability groups and provide support and motivation to help people live a healthy life, while doing so myself! No, I am not a nutritionist or a fitness expert.   I am simply a mom who decided about 2 1/2 years ago that I need a little extra support in getting healthy.  I had such great success and developed such a passion for it, that I decided to pay if forward and help others do the same!

I absolutely LOVE helping others in this area of their lives and also love that I can do it from the comfort of my own home!  I can make this in to a full time job or stick to part time hours.  I am my OWN boss! How great is that?!  I  didn't have any background on social media or network marketing when I started.  Instead I enrolled in an exclusive coach training group that taught me what I need to know to get my business up and running, then I implemented those tips along the way!

Aside from absolutely LOVING what I do, my "why" centers around my daughter's who are ages 4 and 5.  It means the world to me that I can center my work schedule around them.

When I think about all of the mom's who are going out and getting those second jobs, I can't help but think what a perfect opportunity it would be to introduce you in to what I do....Beachbody Coaching!  No,  it's not a pyramid scheme, otherwise I would not have resigned from my 6th grade teaching position of 8 years!

BUT, I also know how hesitant I was when I first started.  SO, I have decided to run a FREE 3 Day Facebook Event that explains what exactly Beachbody Coaching is (and what it is NOT).

On Tuesday, November 17th through Thursday, November 19th, I am going to be posting about 9 posts that gives you the facts and basics about what exactly is involved and exactly how you make money.

My ultimate goal is to help a maximum of 5 PEOPLE (new Coaches) earn a minimum of $500 to put towards holiday shopping, a donation, or just to have a little wiggle room in the budget.  I am maxing it out at 5 people because I am going to be providing 1:1 and small group support so that you can get the best support possible.

How will it work?  After my 3 Day Event, I will begin an exclusive Coach Training so that you can get started right away!

Are you worried that you can't do it because you don't know anything about Beachbody and their products?  No worries!  The huge perk of being a Coach is that while we are helping others, we are also helping ourselves get and stay healthy! So, NO, you do not have to be "in the best shape of your life" to do this!  When it comes down to it, it's important that you are kind, caring, and have a desire to help others.  If you are willing to put in the extra hours working a second (on site) job over the holidays, then spend LESS hours working a job from home!  You have complete control of your schedule!

So, what do you say?  Are you in?

If you'd like to join in on the FREE event (there are ZERO strings attached) then click HERE and mark that you are "GOING."  Then, I will begin posting on Tuesday!

If you go through the event and realize it isn't for you, no worries!
