What is a Beachbody Coach? My journey and where I am at now.


Passion. Drive. Determination. Purpose.

What are you passionate about?
What drives you to live a happy, successful life?

This has been such a bitter sweet week for me.  Three years ago at this time I was starting a new school year as a sixth grade teacher.  A new group of students to meet, teach, inspire, and motivate.  Teaching has always been a part of who I am.  Having a passion for what you decide to do in life is so important.  I always had those first week jitters just as kids have going in to the new school year. But life took a different path for me.  It certainly wasn't expected.  In fact, if you would have asked me about 6 years ago I would have been dead set on telling you that I would retire from teaching at 35 years.

 Then I had my own kids.  Life changed. My personal priorities changed.

3 years ago I decided to put my passion of teaching on the back burner so that I could stay home with my daughters.  I was tired of that terrible feeling I would get every day dropping them off at the sitters.  I hated that rushed feeling I would have when I would pick them up, get home, cook dinner, pack for the next day, play for a bit, tuck them in bed, then repeat it all over again. I especially didn't like the craziness of calling off, making sub plans, or finding a sitter on the days that they were sick.  Believe me, I give parents A TON of credit for working full time outside of the home.  But honestly, I discovered that that type of craziness just wasn't for me.  As much as I loved teaching my students, I had that "gut" feeling that I was needed elsewhere.

While I was granted my one year leave of absence I was SO excited to have the opportunity to take and pick up my daughter from her 1/2 day preschool class, to not have to worry about the evening rush to prepare for the next day, and to not have to think twice when either of my daughters got sick. BUT, as a very career driven person, I knew that I was going to need something else to work towards.  I honestly didn't have a plan (which was very odd for me), and I wasn't even sure I would have the patience and mindset to stay home all day with the girls after coming off of 9 years of working full time and feeling like I never had a chance to breathe.

I decided to reach out to my friend (my personal Coach) and see what this Coaching business was all about.  After our discussion I decided to go ahead and sign up.  There really wasn't any convincing and truth be told, I was 99% positive that I was going to sign up before the conversation even happened!  It was that "gut" feeling that I had.  Of course I had those doubts and fears just like everyone else but I didn't let that stop me.

It was scary and in the back of my mind I kept telling myself that in a year I could always go back. But deep down I knew I wasn't. Deep down I knew that when I turned my badge and computer in to the school district that I wouldn't be getting it back.


You know that "gut" feeling that people talk about? That was what I had. That "gut" feeling was something that I had for almost 2 years before I decided that I needed to go with it. While I had and still have a great passion for teaching, I knew that there was something bigger and better out there {for me}. I followed that gut instinct, I worked hard, I was driven to succeed, and I discovered my purpose.

My point? You don't have to feel stuck. You can do something about it. The question is, are you ready to follow that feeling?

Coaching has opened SO many doors for me.  For starters, my family is much healthier!  I can properly teach my daughters what it means to eat healthy, incorporate daily exercise, and just have a healthy lifestyle.   Sure, they like their junk and yes, they do get it; but we have that good balance.  I can honestly say that I feel like I am being a positive role model and that the decisions I am making will and are impacting them.

In addition, I LOVE that I am still able to incorporate my love of teaching into this new career path.  I run online groups where I teach others how to meal plan, provide tips, suggestions, motivation, and accountability in reaching their health and fitness goals.  

Through this passion I have been able to create a stable income for my family.  When I fully resigned from my teaching position, while I knew that we could financially make it work, a part of me was definitely a bit concerned.  No matter how much money you are making, when you cut a full income out, things change!  Within the past 3 years of Coaching I have been able to replace my  teaching income and then some.  What took me 9 years of teaching to finally earn in a yearly salary, took me less than 3 years by working less hours, having less stress, and doing it all from my home.  It's not something I talk much about or even dwell on, but I think it's important for people to know the potential of this business. 


I have been able to find that balance between spending time with my kids, being there when they need me, AND incorporating business hours to build my  business.  I've done this from my "office," which is located in the corned of my kids playroom! Yes, I have failed at things. Yes, I had many learning lessons.  Yes, I was new to this social media thing.  But I worked hard and figured it out!  

I am not writing all of this to brag or to compare.   I am writing it to show that when you put your mind to something, you WILL achieve those goals. 

As a result, I have developed a Coach Basics training for my new Coaches to help THEM get THEIR businesses up and running successfully.   I have taken my learning lessons along with the basics of the business and condensed it in to a 15 day training.

Turkey and Sweet Potato Hash

We tried a new dinner tonight and it was a hit!  It came directly from the Country Heat Eating Plan book so I can't take credit for it.  I admit, I was a bit nervous because in general we aren't big fans of ground turkey but everyone liked it and we even have some leftovers for tomorrow!  Give it a try and let me know what you think! 


Ingredients:
Clean Eating, Meal Planning, Healthy Dinner, Turkey and Sweet Potato Hash, Sweet Potatoes, Meal Planning, Quick Dinner Recipes, Successfully Fit, Lisa Decker
Turkey and Sweet Potato Hash
  • 2 tsp olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 medium green bell pepper, chopped (I used a medium red bell pepper too)
  • 2 medium sweet potatoes, peeled, chopped
  • 1 lb raw ground 93% lean turkey breast
  • 2 cloves garlic, finely chopped (or minced)
  • 1 1/2 tsp finely chopped fresh thyme (or 1/2 tsp dried thyme)
  • Sea Salt and ground black pepper (to taste)

Directions: 
  1. Heat oil in medium skillet over medium high heat.
  2. Add onion, bell pepper, and sweet potatoes; cook, stirring frequently.  This takes about 10 minutes or cook until onion is translucent and sweet potatoes are tender-crisp.
  3. Add turkey, cook, stirring frequently until turkey is cooked through and sweet potatoes are soft (about another 6-10 minutes).
  4. Add garlic and thyme and season with salt and pepper (optional).  Cook for an additional 1 minute stirring frequently.  
  5. Serve and Enjoy!

How do I earn money?
It's actually a pretty simple process!  Through the app you are required to log your workouts and Shakeology.  To meet the requirements of the Health Bet, all you have to do is log a minimum of 3 workouts each week of the contest, and a minimum of 5 Shakeology's, plus a photo of your Shakeology with your tracked activity each week.  If you meet these requirements each week of the contest then you will automatically earn an equally split share of the final cash pot!  Logging your workouts and Shakeology is very simple through the app, as you can see in the image above.

Week 2 of CountryHeat is in the books and I am still LOVING the program!  I got a great response from my Week 1 review so I wanted to keep blogging about it so that you can learn more about this awesome program! In week 2 you incorporate THREE new workouts!  Overall I am feeling great and let me tell you, my legs are TIRED by the end of the day!  I can definitely feel this program working and am loving the results thus far.  So let’s talk about what you can expect in week 2.


For starters, the nutrition plan is {obviously} the same as week 1.  I love the container plan, which I have been following for a couple of years now, because it truly helps you learn what you should be eating, when you should be eating it, and even more importantly, how much of it you should be eating!

The Eating Plan booklet has quite a few REALLY good looking recipes.  I tried the Southern Spiced French Toast and my entire family (which includes my 4 and 6 year old daughters) loved it too!

I say this all the time in my groups but when it comes down to it, you can dance your little heart out every single day but if you can't control what's going in to your mouth, then you will not get the intended results! So how do I solve that problem?  Simple! I meal plan!  Ok it's not THAT simple. Meal planning can take up a good bit of time when you first begin but I'm telling you, it's 100% worth it! Once you get the hang of it then it becomes a habit that you just won't break.  Meal planning is something that I really focus on in my groups because speaking from experience, when you just "wing it" each day, chances are your choices aren't going to be that spectacular.

As always, I am still incorporating my Shakeology daily.  Shakeology is a nutritional shake, not a protein shake, that includes your daily dose of vitamins.  It’s fulfilling, (keeping you full for about 2 ½ to 3 hours), gives you great energy, curbs your cravings, and so much more!  It is worth every penny and then some!  I personally prefer to drink it first thing in the morning because I feel like it just gets me going for the day.

Ok now on to the really fun stuff, THE WORKOUTS!  In week 2 you add in three different workouts.  You alternate between Down and Dirty and Bring the Heat, both of which pick up the pace a bit from week 1 and are even more fun!  In addition to that, there is a Dance Conditioning workout that is incorporated 2 days a week along with the regular workout.  Yes, it adds about 24 extra minutes on to your workout for the day but it’s something you don’t want to skip.  The first several minutes are spent stretching but by the end you are doing planks, crunches, push ups, tricep dips, etc.  This all to Country Music!  It’s funny how you don’t even feel like you are working out!

I am so excited that my test group got started and am LOVING their energy! All of the feedback and check-ins have been positive and all of the participants seems to be enjoying themselves!

Southern Spiced French Toast with a Twist

If you follow me then you know that I have been doing the homes fitness program, Country Heat. It has a similar nutrition plan as the ever so popular 21 Day Fix and there are some DELICIOUS looking recipes in the Eating Plan book!  So, here you have it!  I am sharing the first "Country Heat" recipe!

Oh, and it's a good one too!  I tried this out this morning on the family and I got a thumbs up, which means it has made my blog!

Ingredients:
breakfast, Clean Eating, Country Heat, french toast, healthybreakfast, healthylifestyle, healthyliving, Lisa Decker, Meal Planning, pecans, southern french toast, Country Heat Recipes
Southern Spiced French Toast
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • 1 tsp pumpkin pie spice
  • 1Tbsp pure maple syrup
  • 4 slices low-sodium sprouted whole-grain bread
  • 2 tsp extra-virgin coconut oil
  • 1 large banana
  • 1/2 cup chopped raw pecans, toasted 

Direction:
  1. Combine eggs, almond milk, maple syrup, and pumpkin pie spice in a shallow bowl or pan. Whisk to blend.
  2. Soak each slice of bread in egg mixture (about 1 minute on each side).
  3. Heat oil in medium nonstick skillet over medium heat. 
  4. Add bread; cook for 2 to 3 minutes on each side (or until golden brown). 
  5. Top each slice evenly with banana and pecans.
  6. Serve immediately.  

This recipe makes 4 servings (1 slice of bread per serving).  The container equivalents are 1 yellow, 1/2 purple, 1/2 red, 1/2 blue, and 1 tsp per serving.

Country Heat Week 1 Review

Good Sunday Morning!! I am officially through WEEK 1 of Country Heat! Whew!! What a week it has been!  I have to say, after going through a week of this program I am not surprised AT ALL with the fact that it has become the #1 selling Beachbody Challenge Pack program (even beating out the 21 Day Fix)!!  Ok Ok, I admit, I had my doubts.  I was skeptical that a dance workout like this would really bring on results.  Heck, I'm not even a Country music fan!  BUT, I decided to step out of my comfort zone and give it a try.  All I can say is I am NOT disappointed in the least! In fact, I think the music is great too!
So let me tell you a little bit about the program, and more specifically, Week 1.

For the first week the focus is on two workouts:  Country Swing and Giddy Up. You do each workout 3 times and both are about 30 minutes in length. Like every other workout, there is an option to watch about a 15 minute move break down before you do the actual workout.   This is really helpful because when you are doing the actual workout, it's nice to already know the moves and form that you should be using. 

Country Swing includes songs from Keith Urban, Luke Bryan, Frankie Ballard, Billy Currington, and Thomas Rhett. Throughout the workout you get to learn moves like the Grease Step and the 2-Timing Hop!  Check out the video below for a little sneak peek!

Giddy Up is my favorite of the two and features songs from Dierks Bently, Gretchen Wilson, Eric Paslay, Mikel Knight, Big and Rich, and Jill Johnson.  In this workout you learn moves like Rocking Horse and Mules Kicks! Overall, the one thing I can say about both workouts and/or the program in general so far is that I seriously can not believe how much I am sweating when they are over!  And even more so, I can't believe this is even a workout!  It's truly THAT good!  AND, my legs are very tired!!  Several of the moves require you to tighten your core so now I am understanding why the test group results were so fabulous!

Ok so let's talk about the nutrition end of it.....

If you already work with me in my groups or if you follow me, you know what I am going to say, right?  Well here it is.... 80% of your results when it comes to a fitness program are based on what the heck you are putting in your  mouth.  You can dance your little heart out for the duration of this program but if you aren't planning, tracking, and staying on point with your nutrition then the results just aren't going to happen.   I know I sometimes need this little reality check too.

SOOO....... it just so happens that the nutrition plan is the same as the 21 Day Fix! You get the container, the food lists, and yep, you can even indulge in some chocolate, wine, and other treats as long as you give up a carb for the day!  This is exactly why this type of portion control plan is so popular.  IT WORKS!  So in Autumn Calabrese's words...."If it's not broken, why fix it?"

Whether you are on Plan A or Plan D, trust me, you get PLENTY of food.  In order to figure out what plan you are, you follow a simple formula that is based on your weight. Once you get your magic number you find it on the chart and see how many containers you get each day.  It really doesn't get much easier!  As you can see above, on a large dinner plate, I was able to portion out each food (using the containers) and believe me when I say, I was FULL after dinner!! Below you'll see some steak fajitas cooking on the stove and I placed those in a whole wheat tortilla.

 I'm showing you pictures of my meals because I want you to see that eating healthy isn't boring!  It also doesn't mean starving yourself!  My focus when I help others through their journey is to focus on that overall lifestyle change rather than a 30 day diet.
I am heading in to Week 2 tomorrow and I can't wait to try out the new workouts!  I also finished up my meal plan which you can see below. I personally like to keep things simple but do plan to add some new foods to the menu next week.  As always, I stick with my chocolate shakeology first thing each morning because I truly feel that it fuels me for the day.
